Us Against the World

Do you ever feel like everything in the world is conspiring against you? There are definitely times when we feel like no one else really understands what we are trying to do or why we are trying to do it. Why do we take the time to write posts almost every day, why do we travel to far away places instead of traveling to see family, why do we spend so much energy working on something that doesn’t make much money? These are all questions that we get asked by friends and family. As if writing a travel blog is a hobby that we do in our spare time as opposed to something that can be more significant than that. We are generally positive people, so we do our best to push some of the negative commentary out of our minds. At the end of the day, we know that are not alone and that there is a community of like-minded people for us to connect with. Do you ever feel the same way, do people question why you do what you do at times?

  2. Your posting brought up so many thoughts and feelings! I have been traveling for almost three years mostly on my own. I have been immensely enriched by it in so many ways and am finishing up a second book related to my experiences in the big world ( not “travel” books). I have lost a few friends, who were apparently not very good friends, but I have made so many more and actually gotten closer to many of the people in my life at home. Remember, you will not look back and say “I wish I had listened to those people who didn’t understand what I was doing.” As long as you understand, that’s what counts.

  3. We’ve just started writing our family blog and already get these questions and recent distance from family and friends.

  4. Primary I blog for myself. A great record of the many wonders I’ve seen. Also inspires me to see and do more, especially in my home state of Colorado. I tell my friends I travel with a rubber duck and have a great time doing so. Also ducks often help me meet other interesting travelers. My friends just take it all as a part of my life. Some have even asked for a duck to take on their vacation. Most friends also travel and some enjoy reading of my experience and often suggest other activities in the area. I haven’t had many negative comments, or I haven’t paid any attention to them. Please, just travel, write and enjoy your life.

We’re all different. I don’t know anyone, and I do mean anyone who blogs here. So I get a lot of “why on earth do you do it?” . Actually I’ve been asking myself whether to continue, but it has nothing to do with people’s questioning. It’s rather my own questions and maybe wanting to move on to a larger writing project. But please keep yours up, at least this way I can continue travelling along with you πŸ™‚

Such a good post with so many relevant points. I think over-analysing why you blog and spend so much time on it is really not a great idea. We all do it though and I often wonder why I bother putting so much effort into something that hardly anyone that I know reads. But you need to get out of those moods don’t you and get back to the ‘I do it because I just enjoy it, OK’ mentality. It’s a wonderful diary of your life so don;t stop.
